A Message From the Principal

Spring is on its way!
We have been very busy at the school with a variety of activities.  First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the voters of Pateros School District for supporting our students by passing our replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy.  Your support is vital to the success of our students.
Also, our school was awarded the National Civic Star Award for Washington State.  This award honors school-community partnerships that enrich the education process; Pateros School won for the work we have done with Methow Arts Alliance.  A plaque recognizing our achievement was presented to us at the American Association of School Administrators conference.  This award reflects the hard work and dedication of Methow Arts, the staff at Pateros School, and the many students that have been involved in the projects completed over the years.  If you haven’t seen the stained glass panels in the foyer or the billygoat mosaic near the commons, please come by the school and see how well our students have done on these projects, as well as others.

Our Knowledge Bowl team just place first for 1B schools at the regional competition and are headed to the state competition.  That contest will be held on March 21 in Spokane.  Once again our students are excelling in their academics! Way to go team!

Speaking of our teams, the Nannies Basketball team placed 7th in the class 1B basketball tournament in Yakima, February 20 – 23.  The girls were not only very competitive during their games, they conducted themselves in the manner I have come to expect from our students.  They were extraordinary representatives of our community.

The Pep Band joined us in Yakima and performed on Friday and Saturday.  Their contribution was awesome!  All our bands, under the direction of Mr. Jonathan McBride sound better than ever.  Their dedication is apparent when listening to them perform.  For the first time in years the band will be going to several performing and competition opportunities.  Also, one of our students, Lena Howe, auditioned and qualified to participate in the Washington All-State Wind Symphony.  This was a group composed of the best musicians from 1B, 2B, 1A and 2A schools across the state.  She performed with the Washington State Wind Symphony on February 18th.  Congratulations Lena!

Now we are preparing for spring.  That means WASL testing, the school play, spring sports, and eventually, graduation.   Let’s enjoy each day to its fullest!
