A Message from the Superintendent

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
On the Move, Farewell and Thanks

This is the toughest “Message from the Superintendent”   that I have had to write during my two years here.  As some of you may have heard, I have had the good fortune to be selected as the next Superintendent of the Cheney School District and I will start my new duties as of July 1st.  This is a “yea/boo” time for me.  From the “yea “perspective I will get to return home to where we have a house and be near where our son and granddaughter live.  Additionally it is a great professional growth opportunity for me, a district with over 3700 students.  From the “boo” perspective I am not ready to leave Pateros.  The community, staff and students have embraced me during my time here and the positive energy I feel every time I am in Pateros makes me want to stay.
In my two years here, working together, we have put in place programs to strengthen our math curriculum, solved long standing infrastructure problems, and have set in motion a plan to make our bus fleet self supporting.  We have done these things without losing sight of the fact that it is always about kids.
Additionally, during my time here the school board has steered the steady course of continuous improvement and fiscal stewardship, looking for ways to create more opportunities for kids, while at the same time making sure that the public trust was maintained in the allocation of limited tax dollars.  As I write this message today we are in good shape financially with the resources available to continue the district push towards excellence.
Finally, as I complete my second year and prepare to leave I want to challenge the community and district to keep “The Pateros School District on the Move.”  Continue to push for more opportunities for kids, advocate for a world class learning environment and look for pathways to make the Pateros School District the district of choice within North Central Washington.  While I know that Cheney is the right place for me at this point in my life I will always carry a piece of Pateros with me.  Thanks for your support.
