FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT

The first language of humans was the creation of images on cave walls, just as the first language of a child is drawing. Art is a universal and basic language. The inclination to express ones self visually begins early. Its subsequent development is fundamental for every person and essential for our society. Pateros School District promotes and supports arts education by giving all students K-12 the opportunity to explore the basic principles and elements of design through traditional and experimental media and techniques. Students develop conceptual ideas and design skills that eventually can lead them to a variety of careers, whether they continue with a Fine Art interest, or not.

Pateros schools are in partnership with Methow Art Alliance, a non-profit organization founded in 1983 that augments student learning in the arts through artist residencies. Silk Screens created by Pateros students are part of the permanent collection being displayed at Omak's Mid-Valley Hospital.

Working in conjuction with Methow Art Alliance artists, stained glass windows have been created, by our Publications class, featuring our DOE Blue Ribbon status and area scenery, and are installed in our Main entry way. The Commons entry wall is covered with a 17 foot by 3 foot Mosaic, created by our Leadership Class, featuring our local landscape. Our students are incredibly creative!!!!!
