Meet our Friendly Bus Drivers

The Pateros School District bus drivers are not just average guys and gals put behind the wheel of a bus. They are qualified, certified drivers, licensed by the State of Washington, who have passed rigorous standards of training. Our drivers have several classroom hours of education and spend 10 to 20 hours behind the wheel of a school bus with a state certified trainer before they ever drive your children. They attend a minimum of 3 hours in service each year to keep their knowledge and skills current with the high standards set by the State of Washington. Our drivers are required to have a Department of Transportation physical every two years. They must attend First Aid classes and keep their cards current. They must submit to a background check from the police department and pass random drug and alcohol screens. You can be assured that you are putting your child in very capable hands when they step onto our safe school buses. Our friendly, caring drivers are not only professionals but they also care about kids or they would not have chosen this career.

SAFETY TIPS

The Pateros School District transported 183 students, over 60,000 miles, in 2004. We currently have a fleet of 7 buses, with a new 78 passenger Blue Bird expected to be delivered early 2006. The Washington State Patrol inspections are twice per year, once in December and once during the summer.

Please discuss the following school bus safety procedures with your children.

• Be at your bus stop 5 minutes before the scheduled bus time.
• Don't play in the street while waiting for the school bus.
• Never reach under a school bus to get anything that has rolled or fallen underneath.
• After getting off the school bus move immediately onto the sidewalk or roadside away from the traffic.
• Never cross the street behind the school bus.
